Thank you for this, it’s something I think about quite a lot. There is a fiction book from the perspective of moneylenders in medieval Poland that might be of interest, Spinning Silver. You might also be curious to ask ChatGPT what the Talmud says about moneylending. Social responsibility is an important value in the Jewish community.

Good recommendations! Once I finish this project, I want to dive deeper into what ancient texts say about money and how that shaped the development of the economy. I've read the Old Testament and it talks a lot about jubilees and taking care of one another during difficult times. I think there's a lot of wisdom to be gleaned from these texts.

P.S. sorry for the late delay to your comment! Sometimes I lose track of notifications on Substack.

I created an entire economics curriculum using ChatGPT. This is for the first "class." I had ChatGPT break down the class into different lecture topics and I asked it to assign me reading for the class. This specific essay about economic thought in Medieval Europe didn't have any assigned readings so I had to get creative. I also had ChatGPT create a scoring rubric to evaluate each essay as well as a breakdown of grading for the whole course. Once I get to my midterm I'll have it create a test for me.

A lot of people assume ChatGPT will do the work for you -- in this case writing an essay. I find it more valuable as a tool that creates a framework in which I can do the work myself. I don't have access to a master's degree at a world class university but if I can use ChatGPT to replicate the learning process, maybe I can come close.
