History of Modern Economic Thought

Artificial intelligence is going to change the current state of human civilization.

This happened with the advent of farming, enabling our hunter gatherer ancestors to establish fixed settlements.

This happened with the Gutenberg Press, challenging the church’s monopoly on information and thus political power.

This happened with the steam engine, ushering in a period of great industrialization.

And this happened with the microchip, allowing us to push the economy into a limitless digital world.

There’s no question that artificial intelligence is poised to change everything, from the way we work to the way we organize our societies to the very essence of humanity itself.

To prepare for this transition, we have to learn how to use AI-powered tools that are emerging.

In all preceding technological revolutions, our ancestors adopted. If they didn’t, well, none of us would be here.

To thrive in the future we must learn how to use and eventually become masters of the new tools coming online.

One of the ways I think AI will become tremendously useful is with regard to education. With the assistance of an AI-powered tool, users can teach themselves anything.

This will have profound implications, not just on higher education, but how individuals can obtain knowledge and advance their own intellect.

To understand how this could be applied, I created a master’s level economics curriculum for myself using ChatGPT.

The first class within this curriculum is The History of Modern Economic Thought.

You can read more about how I developed the course here:

Can You Use ChatGPT Instead of Going to Grad School? I’m About to Find Out.

I love to learn. As you can imagine, I did well in school.

As part of the class I am publishing a series of essays based on my reading assignments. These essays are evaluated based on the a rubric I created using ChatGPT as well as the market — readers like you.

You can read those essays here:

Once the course is finished, I intend to publish a comprehensive evaluation of the project.

Doing so will provide an assessment of whether or not a tool like ChatGPT can be an option for legitimate self-study. Ideally, by documenting my process, you can be refine it and replicate it to use across different disciplines.

At this time, I do not have an estimate when this course will be completed.

I’d like to finish it and provide a comprehensive assessment sooner rather than later. But with any project, the biggest challenge I face right now is funding.

At this time approximately 80% of my revenue comes from freelance writing with 20% coming from Medium and Substack.

That means the vast majority of my time is spent soliciting and completing freelance work. The less time I have to allocate towards this project, the longer it will take to complete.

If this project speaks to you and it’s something you’d like to see more of, here’s how you can help.
